Storyteller. Artist. Collaborator.

C.  A.  Munn

is a multidisciplinary artist.

They write and direct film and theater, and write and publish fiction, creative non-fiction, and poetry. They received their M.F.A. in playwriting in 2022 from the Creative Writing Workshop at the University of New Orleans, where they took workshops in all five genres offered. Their refusal to commit exclusively to a single genre has only strengthened since.

C. A.—known, to those who know them, as Cam— remains in New Orleans, where they work in the film industry (whenever possible, in these trying times for film workers), mostly as a script supervisor. Cam also performs as a stage actor and occasional drag king, under the name Scott Flavah (say it twice!). When they’re not doing any of the above, chances are they’re practicing Shaolin Kung Fu, in which they have a second-degree black belt.

Artist Statement

A spirit of humanism infuses my writing across genres, medium, and scale. As a non-binary artist, gender and identity inform both my perspective and the perspectives of my characters. As a citizen of the Gulf Coast and Earth, themes of environmental stewardship and disaster often inspire my work.

I believe in the power of art and stories to embolden the imagination: to envision how the world could be different, and how those different from ourselves live. These acts of imagination are the building blocks of empathy, and the cracks in the foundation of complacency. Through my work, I seek above all to challenge and stretch both the empathetic capacities and imaginational horizons of readers and audiences, even when it is not comfortable or comforting to do so.
